The Commission on Accreditation of the Council of Chiropractic Education (CCE) is the national accrediting body for chiropractic education recognized by the Office of Education US Department of Health Education and Welfare, and by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation (CORPA), formerly the Council on Postsecondary Education (COPA). The Commission on Accreditation of the CCE has the same status with these two agencies as the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME). In addition the CCE is a member of the Council of Specialized Accrediting Agencies (CSAA). The purpose of the CCE is as follows:

1. Advocate high standards of quality in chiropractic education
2. Establish criteria of institutional excellence for educating primary health care chiropractic physicians

3. Inspecting and accrediting colleges through it’s Commission on Accreditation

4. Publish a list of those institutions which conform to its standards and policies

The educational requirements necessary to obtain a chiropractic degree include a minimum of two years of pre-chiropractic college and four years of residency at an accredited chiropractic college. Courses include human anatomy; biochemistry; physiology; microbiology; pathology; public health; physical, clinical, laboratory, and x-ray diagnosis; gynecology; obstetrics; pediatrics; geriatrics; dermatology; otolaryngology; x-ray techniques including physics and positioning; psychology; nutrition and diet; orthopedics; physical therapy; spinal analysis; principals and practice of chiropractic's; adjustive techniques; toxicology; human dissection and topographical anatomy; neurology; embryology; first aid and emergency procedures.

During the last two years of the student’s education, the student participates in an internship program with the college clinic and during the last year of the student’s education, the student participates in an intern program whereby he/she practices in a private chiropractic office with a licensed chiropractor. Before the graduate can get his chiropractic license, he/she must pass rigid state or national written and oral examinations before he/she is deemed qualified to practice Chiropractic.
